Betsy Karas is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the state of North Carolina obtaining full licensure in 7/01/1995. Betsy received her B.A. in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1975, and Master of Human Development and Learning, with focus in clinical counseling in 1983 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Betsy has over 40 years of experience working with adults, children, adolescents and families in various capacities. Betsy has served both adults and children in an out-patient clinical setting since 1990. Betsy has experience providing assessments, emergency evaluations, individual, family and group therapy in various clinical settings. Prior to working in an out-patient setting Betsy held various Social Work positions with child and adult populations including foster care, protective services, licensing/ supervising therapeutic foster homes serving youth with severe emotional/ behavioral problems.
Most recently Betsy provide out-patient therapy with a private practice in Mooresville, NC serving children, teenagers and adults.
Treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered Therapy, with focus on developing positive therapeutic rapport with the client to help create an atmosphere of trust and unconditional positive regard to encourage the client to increase awareness of thoughts and feelings that influence their behaviors. Clients are encouraged to develop effective coping skills including emotional regulation skills, self-soothing skills, mindfulness skills and cognitive skills through activities requiring client’s participation and practice.
Betsy enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to exercise classes, playing cards, being outside and snow skiing or just enjoying winter weather by the fire.
