Helen Bush, M.A. Ed
Helen Bush, M.A. Ed completed her B.S. in Special Education from Appalachian State University. Through her work in her undergraduate program, Helen was awarded the position of Research Graduate Assistant through the Reich College of Education as she remained in Boone, NC to pursue her Master’s degree. Helen completed her M.A. in Special Education with a Graduate Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders. After university, Helen moved to Charlotte to teach students with severe and profound disabilities. Throughout her teaching career, Helen diversified academic and life skills instruction and developed Individualized Education Programs for students with Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Helen taught Special Education for four years prior to joining Carolina Psychology Center as an Educational Specialist.
Helen has worked with children and young adults with disabilities for over 13 years. She is passionate about teaching with a whole-child approach to encompass all of a student’s academic and social-emotional needs. Helen works closely with students and their families to develop plans specific to their learning and life goals, such as reading on grade level, gaining employment, or developing life skills essential for independent living. Helen’s expertise developing IEP and 504 Plans allows her to partner with families as an advocate for a student’s need for services and accommodations within the school environment. Helen also provides educational assessments for local charter schools and families looking to determine their student’s strengths and needs. Helen’s goal is to help students reach their full potential while partnering with parents and guardians to assist them in establishing the appropriate supports within their child’s classroom.
