Psychological and Psychoeducational Evaluation & Testing

Please email info@carolinapsychologycenter.com with questions after reading below and to schedule a brief consult with one of our clinicians. Our full evaluations cost $1875 and can be broken into installments. We do not accept any insurance for psychological testing. If you only need an IQ and/or achievement test for admissions or Early K, we have specific tabs and info for those services. Please click those tabs. Most of our evaluations are for learning challenges or diagnostic reasons (ADHD/ LD’s, and can identify any additional mood disorders or anxiety). We do not do “forensic testing” for purposes of using it in a legal or court setting and we typically do not do full Autism Evaluations. We do not do evaluations for military screenings.

Psychological Testing is helpful in determining if an intellectual disability or specific learning disorder is present. Testing can also assist in diagnosis of executive functioning concerns (e.g., ADHD) or other cognitive or academic impairments. Reports can be provided to the child’s school and/or other provider(s) to better assist in supporting the child in the classroom and at home. We do comprehensive evaluations and reports.

Some of our speciality evaluations include: Early Admission to Kindergarten, Gifted Testing for AIG programs for Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy as well as other programs. We are very experienced assessing IQ for young children, which requires patience and a special skill-set. Please see our tabs for those specific testing services.

Some of the specific assessments we offer include the WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WPPSI-IV, Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement, Beery VMI, CTOPP-2, GORT-5, BRIEF-2, and more. We offer installment options for large evaluations. Payments must be made in full by follow up. We do not accept insurance for psychological testing. Our fees are simple and straightforward. We charge in packages so that there are no surprises for our clients during or at the conclusion of the evaluation. All fees are discussed upfront.

We offer:

IQ testing: WPPSI-IV for preschool, WISC-V for ages 6-16, WAIS-IV for 16 and older. IF you only need IQ testing that is not diagnostic, the cost is $375 (see tab for IQ testing for admissions like Scholars Academy and our online calendar)

Educational testing: The Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement (WJ-IV) or the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-4).

If you only need an achievement test that is not diagnostic in nature, the cost is $425

Psychoeducational Testing: includes IQ, achievement, and other measures when necessary for the purpose of determining diagnoses. The full cost is $1875.00

Full psychological evaluation: includes many assessment measures, interviewing and sometimes record reviews-generally for clarifying diagnoses such as ADHD. The full cost is $1875.00

Early Admission to Kindergarten (see tab for that service): Includes IQ and achievement measure for full cost of $575

Not sure what you need? Email us and we will help you determine the current testing needs.

IF you have had your consult and we have given you permission to schedule the Intake Session, you may choose that option and pay the $150/$50 deposit($150 for full eval intake, $50 for stand alone test). Or if this is for Early Kindergarten or Scholars Academy, there are specific tabs for those services.

FAQs

How long will testing take?

Length of testing depends on the needs of the client. An IQ test alone takes 1-2 hours. For diagnostic testing, 2-4 sessions are required and each session will range from 1-2 hours.

How should I prepare my child for testing?

There is no preparation needed for testing. It is best to tell your child that they are meeting with someone who is similar to a teacher to do some tasks and determine their strengths and weaknesses or “how they learn best.” With young children/ pre-school age, you may wish to tell them that we will be doing some fun activities in which they will be answering some questions, working with blocks and puzzles, and looking at pictures.

Please do not tell your child that the psychologist will be deciding if they are going to Kindergarten or getting into a particular school! That is ultimately not the decision of the psychologist.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

The time for your child’s testing session is reserved specifically for them! If you need to cancel or re-schedule, you should do so by calling the psychologist as soon as you become aware of the need. Testing sessions are blocked often in 2 hour blocks and those times cannot be filled when enough notice is not given. Re-scheduling will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Repeated cancellations will result in not being scheduled for testing sessions. No-show clients (those that do not show or call) will not be contacted to re-schedule.

Will my insurance cover testing?

We do not accept insurance reimbursement for psychological testing. In addition,  Educational testing (that is not part of a full diagnostic evaluation) and testing for Kindergarten admission or Gifted Admission is NOT covered by insurance, not matter which insurance provider you use. Insurance does not pay for elective educational testing where there is no clinical diagnosis.

What days and times are available for testing?

Availability varies according to client’s needs. Most younger children perform best in the mornings. Emailing is the best way to quickly secure an appointment slot.

How soon will I receive results?

Generally, if testing consists of an IQ test alone, results are provided within 1 week or sooner. For full diagnostic evaluations or psychoeducational evaluations, results are typically provided within 2-3 weeks. If you have a tight deadline, please let the psychologist know when scheduling to ensure testing and results can be completed in that timeframe.

What types of payment can you receive?

Payment can be made by cash, check, debit/credit card, or flex spending card.

Why is testing so expensive?

Psychological testing is a specialized service that requires specific training and expertise. In particular, working with young children providing testing requires experience, additional time, and care. Testing protocols are also expensive. For every hour spent testing face-to-face there are additional hours for the psychologist to score, interpret, and write reports/follow up.
